Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)

Sleep diagnostic services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital Sleep Center. Our Center provides private and secure home-like sleeping rooms with private restrooms with showers.

When you arrive for your sleep study you will report to the Emergency Department registration desk at your assigned time. The sleep center technician will meet you at the desk after you "check-in" at the desk.

MSLTs are daytime sleep studies performed as a series of 4-5 naps.  Generally, these naps are performed at 8:00, 10:00, 12:00 and 2:00 and 4:00.  The sleep tech will prepare you for this study, just like the overnight sleep study, less the monitoring of your chest, abdomen, legs and nose. Between each nap you are free to watch TV, read or move about the room. You will not be permitted to sleep between the scheduled nap times. Lunch and snacks are provided during the day.

This test is normally performed the day after an overnight sleep study or your doctor may choose to have you come back at a later date. If coming back at a later date, you will report to your instructed location at your designated time.

Please Note:  Please have a normal night's sleep prior to coming back in for your MSLT. DO NOT attempt to stay up so you can nap the next day. Nicotine is avoided within 30 minutes prior to each nap. Caffeine is not permitted the day of the testing.
