Daytime Sleepiness

In today's world it is very easy to become sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation can reduce our alertness and our performance. Our busy lives often cause us to shorten our sleep to accommodate our busy schedules. Excessive daytime sleepiness is a sign that your body is not getting enough sleep. Or if you are getting required amount of sleep and you are still tired during the day then you could have an underlying sleep disorder. Many people with sleep disorders are unaware that they are having problems during sleep. Many times the bed partner is the "alert" of a possible sleep disorder.

The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is a well-known screening tool for excessive sleepiness. Please take a moment to determine your score.  It may be a good idea for your spouse to assess you with this test as well. Many times people have a misperception of their sleepiness that is better rated by their spouse.  Also, many times fatigue and sleepiness are confused with one another.
