Geisinger Health System and Geisinger–Lewistown Hospital's eICU Program provides advanced care for intensive care patients at the Hospital. The eICU Program is an advanced telemedicine solution using eICU remote monitoring technology to enhance care of critically ill patient. Through this technology, a specially trained eICU team of critical-care physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals can monitor critical care patients from an off-site location called the eICU center.
This additional support to staff and patients enhances the quality and efficiency of the critical care Geisinger–Lewistown Hospital provides and enables round-the-clock access to critical-care expertise where and when it is needed.
Working in conjunction with the bedside physicians and nurses, the eICU providers can review patient vital signs, medications, blood test results, X-rays and other information. With the Geisinger eICU Program, an expert eICU team is reviewing patient data and responding quickly to avoid crisis. Should an emergency occur, the eICU physician is there to work with the providers at the bedside and assist with routine and emergency care.
You physician delegates the level of eICU care to be provided and makes all the final decisions regarding you and your loved one's care. Because your physician is jointly reviewing the medical status and treatment plans, Geisigner eICU Program physicians are able to intervene when your physician is not present in the ICCU.
The eICU camera is activated upon request by the bedside staff or during "virtual rounding" to check on patients, or when an emergency or change in status requires the immediate attention of a physician. The camera points away from the patient when not in use. No temporary or permanent recording is made from any camera or microphone.
