The Diabetes Resource Center at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital offers education classes each Spring and Fall. Classes are held one day a week for five weeks. Topics may include:

  • Diabetes Basic Nutrition
  • Carbohydrate Counting
  • Monitoring
  • Medications
  • Avoiding Complications. 

The instructors for the class are Pat Wolf, RN, CDE and Program Coordinator, and Julie Fisher, RD, LDN, CDE.

All participants are assessed as to knowledge and needs so that individualized education plans may be developed. Each individual receives education on all aspects of diabetes in a group setting. Individual consultation for glucose monitoring, nutrition, or insulin administration is available upon request.

Classes are not free, however, insurance coverage may be available.  Medicare and other private insurance plans will be billed based on the number of class hours attended. Contact your provider for an explanation of benefits.  Funding is also available for those without insurance. 

Registration is required to attend and a referral from a physician is also required. Please call Central Scheduling at 242-7688 to register.

The Diabetes Resource Center is recognized by the American Diabetes Association as meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self Management Education.
