The Geisinger–Lewistown Hospital Bone Health Center is a multi-departmental program providing risk analysis via screening and bone density imaging, educational outreach programming, nutrition and diet management, exercise management, and laboratory testing. The Program aims to assist area residents with the risk analysis, diagnosis, and lifestyle changes and/or treatments of low bone mass (osteopenia) or osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and brittle and are prone to fractures. This disease affects 44 million Americans, mostly women, but also men. At the Bone Health Center, we offer state-of-the-art bone density testing with a Hologic DEXA scanner. The lumbar spine, hips and forearms can be tested. A "T-score" is obtained for each body part tested to determine whether the patient has osteopenia or osteoporosis. To schedule an appointment, call (717) 242-7688.
